Two honoured with Shilp Guru Award and National Award 2019

Two from the State were among those conferred with the prestigious Shilp Guru Award and National Award 2019 by the Ministry of Textiles to honour master craftpersons with significant contributions in the handicraft sector.
The awards were distributed by Jagdeep Dhankhar, Vice President of India at an event held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on November 28 .
It is worth noting that Gurumayum Shanti Devi w/ o Labuktongbam Chaoba Sharma from Kalimai Mandir, Yaiskul Police Lane was among the ten selected for Shilp Guru Award 2018 .
The award consisted of a cash prize, gold coin, certificate, tamrapatra and a shawl.
Her craft was classed under 'artistic textiles' category and comprised of Lamthang Khullak, Khamen Chatpi and Luhong Phijin.
Notably, Gurumayum Shanti Devi was conferred the National Award in 2016 for her work in such artistic textiles.
Further, Maisnam Lalini Devi w/o Late N Romi Singh from Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak was among the 31 individuals selected for National Award 2019.She received the award for "Saphee Lanphee" under the endangered category.
The award consisted of a cash prize, tamrapatra, certificate and a shawl.
The State Government had previously honoured Maisnam Lalini Devi with the State Award 2008-09.Reportedly, they were the only individuals selected for these awards from the entire North East.
The two awardees expressed great joy upon being honoured with these awards and thanked the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles.
The two ladies were accompanied by Officer representatives from the North East Region at the award distribution ceremony including Deetansu Haldar, Deputy Director (I/C) North Eastern Regional Office, Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, Guwahati and Mutum Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Assistant Director (Handicrafts), Handicrafts Service Centre.
Dignitaries present at the event include Jagdeep Dhankhar, Vice President of India as the chief guest; Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Textiles, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Commerce & Industry as the functional president and Rachna Shah, secretary, Ministry of Textiles; Shantmanu, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles and Additional Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) .
