UNC elects new executive council

With the end of the previous tenure, a new executive council of United Naga Council (UNC) headed by Ng Lorho as president was elected on Tuesday during a general election held at Maram Union Secretariat, Senapati.
The election commission of UNC headed by K Raisong as chief election commission, 2022 elected Ng Lorho as president, S Milan as vice president, Vareiyo Shatsang as general secretary, S Stephen Lamkang as assistant general secretary, Koruphun Tantanga as social & culture secretary, Heutwalung James as information & publicity secretary and Paul Chothe as assembly speaker for the tenure 2022-26.The remaining posts would be filled up in the forthcoming presidential meeting.
UNC elects new executive council Ng Lorho, son of Ngaino, is from Tunggam village under Senapati district and belongs to Poumai Naga community.
He had served as president of Poumai Naga Union in 2010-13, president of Naga People's Organisation in 2015, vice president of UNC in 2017-18, advisor of Poumai Naga Union and member of the Joint Committee on Covid-19, Manipur, representing the UNC.
General secretary Vareiyo Shatsang is former president of All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) and belongs to Tangkhul community.
Oath taking and handing over of files is expected to take place on December 5, according to a source.
Meanwhile, Naga Hoho has congratulated the newly elected UNC executives and "assembly officials" for the tenure 2022-2026.The Hoho extended its best wishes to the new team led by NG Lorho and also lauded the outgoing UNC team led by S Kho John "for the successful tenure".
It then said, "The sacrifices and services rendered to the Naga people will go down in the Naga history".
Further, the Hoho appealed to the outgoing UNC team to continue to extend support and service to the Naga people.
