Imphal, July 17 2019:
Former MLA ST Victor Nunghlung has appealed to all those concerned to remain calm and promote peace in connection with the current tension which resulted from the death of one elderly man identified as D Thamnok of Chalong village under Chandel district at Chandel DHQ on June 18.Speaking to media persons at his quarter at Lamphel today, the former MLA said that the body of D Thamnok was taken back to his native village on the request of the villagers.
However, instead of taking the body back to Chalong village, it was buried at an area between Darchol village and Vomku village.
After a few days, villagers of Darchol came to learn of the burial and instead of approaching the villagers of Chalong, exhumed the body and transferred it to another location.
The locals of Chalong village demanded the body to be handed over to them and eventually filed a complaint at Tengnoupal PS as well.
An FIR was lodged against 8 individuals, the former MLA explained and alleged that following the lodging of the FIR, police and commandos began searching for the said individuals named in the FIR thus creating great inconveniences to the people.
The enraged Anal community even staged a sit in protest at DC Lamkhai recently, he added.
Stating the various kinds of protest and road blocks are currently underway, the former MLA appealed to all those concerned to form a committee each for the Lamkang community and the Anal community to bring about a peaceful solution to the issue.
ST Victor Nunghlung also appealed to all not to create any tension between the communities due to the death of an elderly man.
