Ukhrul, July 17 2019:
A team of doctors from Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal yesterday collected samples of the poisonous wild mushroom (Ngatha Var) for research and study following the death of three persons from Sihai Khullen village after consuming it.
The samples will be studied to establish the exact reasons that caused the death.
In an exclusive interaction with one villager identified as Chitheimi, who took care of the persons, the incident occurred on July 2 after the family consumed the dish prepared with the wild mushroom and meat.
The initial symptoms were nausea and vomiting later followed by severe stomach cramp and diarrhoea.

According to medical reports, symptoms of poisonous mushroom after eating occur within 6 and 24 hours with the same problem of nausea, stomach ache, vomiting and diarrhoea.
However, the incident at Sihai village occurred after one week of the consumption.
On July 8, the grandfather died while the other two kids died on July 10 and 11 with the same complaint.
Chitheimi said, they were advised not to sleep or keep them in isolation but interact with them to keep them awake during the treatment of other family members at RIMS.
The rest of the family members who had eaten the same mushroom dish were admitted at RIMS following complaints of breathing problems and they were always kept awake, woken up frequently to administer anti-poison injection and medication.
Doctors from RIMS on seeing the rare symptom hurried to Ukhrul and collected the wild mushroom, Ngatha Var, to study its nature and its chemical compounds.
