Court fixes July 30 for charge order against 6 cops

The Special Judge of CBI/SIT Imphal East today reserved charge order against 6 cops till July 30 in connection with alleged extra judicial killing of Th Ranjit of Itham Nungoi on May 8, 2011.The charge order was fixed after hearing the submission of the counsels of the accused and Special PP CBI on the different sections of IPC levelled by CBI/ SIT against the accused cops.
During the hearing all the accused police personnel, Sub-Inspector RK Brojen (39) of Wangjing Bazar, Head Constable Bharmacharimayum Usharanjan (34) of Khurai Sajor Leikai, Constable Takhellambam Dhake (29) of Kongba Uchekon Khunou, Constable Akimuddin Khan (31) of Kshetri Mayai Leikai, Constable Sapam Premchand (28) of Top Mayai Leikai and Constable Leishangthem Birjit of Khurai Sajor Leikai were present along with their respective counsels.
After hearing the submission the Court reserved the charge order till July 30.The charge hearing began from October last year after the case record and the charge sheet of CBI/ SIT was put up before the Special Judge CBI/SIT Imphal after taking cognizance against 6 accused commando personnel by Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East.
The charge sheet was submitted before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East on July 30 last year by investigating officer Sh Bibek Ranjan Roy PT, CBI, ACB Kolkata now attached to SIT Manipur as directed by Supreme Court of India to submit charge sheets, final report and status report before the Court concerned on the alleged fake encounters/extra judicial killing cases.
After the charge sheet was submitted the accused police personnel surrendered before the Court on August 20, last year.
It was alleged in the charge sheet that the report submitted by Sub Inspector RK Brojen stated that on May 8, 2011 at around 7.10 am that Ranjit a cadre of PREPAK was carrying out extortion from different agents of both Government and non Government organizations after which his team and a team of police personnel rushed to the area and arrested Ranjit.
On preliminary interrogation it was alleged that Ranjit revealed that he was a hardcore member of PREPAK and was also known by the name of Korounganba @ Nongdam working under the finance section of the outfit.
It was also reported that when the police headed toward Lamlai police station at around 8.30 am on the way Ranjit requested them to take him to hospital as he was not felling well.
Ranjit was taken to the hospital and after giving treatment Ranjit was declared dead by the doctor on duty at JNIMS hospital at around 9.45 am, said the report submitted by the SI .
