Imphal, July 17 2019:
Governing Body of S Kula Women's College Nambol today accused the University Grants Commission, North East Regional Office of meting out "step-motherly treatment" to colleges in the North-East region.
Accusing the UGC NERO of 'enforcing different rules which are not enforced in other colleges located in other States', a statement of the body asserted that some colleges including S Kula Women's College were not invited by the UGC NERO for 'interface meeting'.
The University Grant Commission has been implementing special schemes for construction of women's hostel and development of sports infrastructure in all the colleges of the country in accordance with general guidelines of the commission.
However, for colleges located in the North-Eastern Region, new rules are being enforced from time to time, the governing body said.
Stating that all colleges should be treated the same irrespective of their locations, the body condemned a recent rule 'UGC NERO enforced to the effect that even though the inspection team which includes one UGC nominee recommends for release of fund of projects, the college should make a presentation before an expert committee and the recommendation of the committee will be final for release of funds'.
This means the UGC NERO does not rely on the inspection report of the committee which was constituted by the UGC for the purpose, it condemned alleging that the such rule is a 'harassment' to colleges concerned.
