NRHM Manipur set to minimize IMR

NRHM Manipur has set a target to minimize further the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) of the State, which is currently the best in the country.
This was stated by NRHM State Mission Director Dr Okram Ibomcha during an inspection tour to the health centres of Senapati district.
During his visit, Dr Ibomcha held meetings with doctors, nurses and ASHA workers at Senapti District Hospital, Motbung PHC and Leimakhong PHSC.
Saying that the NRHM Manipur is putting in its best effort to meet the Planning Commission's target of bringing down the infant mortality rate to six deaths per 1000 child births from the current rate of 10 deaths per 1000 child births in the State.
Apart from handing over medicines, the Director's team also installed an ILR machine meant for storing immunization medicine at Senapati District Hospital.
The main purpose of the Director's visit was to look into the needs of these health centres regarding child delivery.
Dr Ibomcha instructed the health workers to mobilise the expecting mothers to deliver child at Government health centres.
He added that a target has been set to bring 90 per cent of the expecting mothers to health centres.
Dr Ibomcha said that necessary steps would be taken up soon to function the health centres of the district 27x7 .
He said that operation theatre of the Senapati District Hospital would be made functional as soon as possible.
Saying that new child delivery centres would be opened at strategic points, Dr Ibomcha said that these centres would be made functional before Christmas festival.
Motbung PHC has also started providing the service of child delivery, he said and added that Gamphalong PHC would be made functional 24x7 from July 1 .
Regarding other districts, Dr Ibomcha said that the District Hospitals of Thoubal and Churachandpur have conducted record number of operations.
Saying that the NRHM has restructured the operation theatre of Churachandpur District Hospital, Dr Ibomcha said that an NHRM team from Delhi had rated the district hospital as the best district hospital in the country while Thoubal District Hospital as the most clean and beautiful district hospital after Golaghat District Hospital.
Construction of Chandel District Hospital has taken quite a long time, Dr Ibomcha said and added that NRHM has renovated the old operation theatre.
He added that since past three months, the district hospital has been witnessing good number of operations.
He further said that Lilong PHC has registered an average of 30 delivery cases every month.
The PHC is now equipped with ultrasound machine.
Moreh Sub District Hospital and Tengnoupal delivery centre are under repairing process, Ibomcha said and added that Tengnoupal Delivery Centre is likely to be functional from July 1 .
He added that ultrasound machines would be installed in all the CHCs.
