'Expedite AA process'

'The Government of India and state government of Manipur must understand the aspirations of the Naga people to live together under a single administrative unit and expedite the process of creating an Alternative Arrangement which is a legitimate demand of the Naga people', uttered a leader of Naga Women Union Chandel while briefing mediapersons at Thamlapokpi village in Chandel district on Wednesday.
Tungshil, who is also the finance secretary of NWUC, was speaking to reporters at Thamlapokpi village where hundreds of bandh supporters continued to block the NH-102 for the second day in support of the UNC sponsored 48-hour total bandh.
'The central and state govt should understand that we are fighting for genuine issues.
Therefore, the government must fulfill it soon', Tungshil added.
Taking part in enforcing the bandh, General Secretary of NWUC SK Shangring Lamkang protested the decision of the government to form Village Development Council by suppressing the indigenous right and culture of the tribal people.
She advocated strengthening and empowering of the Village Authority Act 1956 with amendments instead of the Village Development Council.
Meanwhile, President of CNPO Ws Kanral Anal, while thanking all, particularly the Tribe Presidents, the Chiefs Association, NWUC and NSUC for the overwhelming responses it got during the bandh, has apologized for whatsoever inconveniences which might have been caused to individuals, parties or organizations.
It may be mentioned that endorsing the stir spearheaded by by UNC, CNPO enforced the 48-hour long total Bandh in Chandel district beginning from mid night of June 16 last.
The bandh was by and large peaceful and there was no report of any untoward incident.
