Imphal, June 19 2014:
Observing that prices of all essential commodities have been soaring incessantly in the State resulting in untold misery of the common people, AMSU has geared up for a special shop to shop drive.
Speaking to media persons at their office at DM College campus today, AMSU secretary general Laishram Regan appealed to all shopkeepers particularly wholesale dealers as well as the Government not to sell commodities above the prices fixed by the Government and fix prices of goods with a vision, not on ad-hoc basis.
On account of the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities many APL and BPL families are on the verge of starvation.
The situation demands immediate intervention of the Government.
Compounding the woes is denial of the specified quantities of PDS items to APL and BPL card holders in time.
There is also a strong suspicion of the Government acting hands in gloves with big business sharks.
The Government should take up all necessary measures as a matter of urgency so as to put to rest all the public suspicions.
Saying that the AMSU's special drive is in the interest of all the people, Regan sought cooperation of the public.
If any shopkeeper is found selling goods in contravention of the general norms and standard rules, the shopkeeper and the Government should be held responsible for any untoward incident resulting thereof, he added.
