CCDO warns of stir if demand not met

Imphal, June 19 2014:
Informing that the Social Welfare Minister has promised to meet its demands by June 30, the Coordinating Committee on Disabled Organisation, Manipur (CCDO) Thursday warned of sustained agitation beginning July 1 in the event of the Minister failing to translate her assurance into action.
"Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai has assured us to meet our demands by June 30 and we hope she will not delay it.
If the Minister fails to keep her promise, we will opt for sustained agitation from July 1," Dr Sapam Jashobanta, convenor, CCDO told a press meet at Manipur Press Club here.
The demands of the CCDO include strict punishment to chowkidar Him Bahadur Thapa, the accused in the Government Blind School, Takyel student rape case, filing of chargesheets against the alleged rapist at the earliest, appointment of a Commissioner for the disabled, increasing the amount of financial assistance and unemployment allowances given to the differently-abled persons, etc.
