'Telemedicine facility for hill districts'

'Telemedicine' will be introduced in the five hill districts of Manipur under the National Health Mission, Manipur, said Dr.O Ibomcha, Director of Health services, Manipur.
In an exclusive interview, the Director of Health services informed this reporter that he had discussed the feasibility to introduce the Telemedicine facility in hill districts on November 13 along with the multi-national company called Infrastructure Liaison and Financial service based in Delhi.
The initiative has been taken to avail the facility at the remotest part of the state, he added.
A team from Delhi started conducting the feasibility assessment from November 14 and it will continue till November 20.So far, assessment has been completed for the Mao CHC and Ukhrul district hospital.
The programme will be taken up as a pilot project on experimental basis at the CHC Mao, Ukhrul district hospital, Tamenglong district hospital, CHC Chakpikarong, and Moreh sub-district hospital, he said.
If successful in the pilot implementation, the programme will be extended to all villages of hill districts.
UNICEFF has agreed to provide technical and financial assistance for the Telemedicine programme in Churachandpur and Moreh, added Dr.Ibomcha, while saying that telemedicine facility on pediatric AIDS will be made available by December this year and subsequently in Moreh too.
