AITUC to observe National Protest Day on Dec 5

All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur would be observing the National Protest Day on December 5 to demand basic rights of laborers, said L Sotinkumar, general secretary of AITUC, Manipur during a State Convention of the union at Irabat Bhavan today.
Sotinkumar maintained that the National Protest Day is to be observed nationwide in protest against the attempt of NDA Government to convert law into act which would deprive certain rights of laborers.
He stated that a 10-point demand as part of the movement of trade unions have been already put up.
It included curbing price rise of basic amenities; solving umemployment problem; effective implementation of labor laws; availing of social security benefits for laborers and several others.
Lamenting that labor laws are not implemented in the State properly which is unfortunate, he pointed out that Electricity Department and Imphal Hotel were privatized just for accelerating its business, sidelining grievances of laborers.
Manihar Goswami, president of Hind Majdoor Sabha, Manipur; Chinglen Meisnam, Professor of Manipur University; Comrade Ksh Shanta; Comrade Kh Gyanaeshor and Comrade K Manoranjan were seated on dais at the occasion.
