BNHS scientists to study Amur Falcons

While Church leaders, village chiefs, volunteers and Government officials have pledged collectively not to catch or kill wild animals including Amur Falcons, known as Kahoipuina in Kabui dialect, some scientists of the Bombay Natural History Society would visit Tamenglong district to study about Amur Falcons.
Notably, Amur Falcon is one of the many migratory birds which come to Barak river in Tamenglong district every winter season.
Forest Department together with the People for Animals, Thoubal organised an awareness campaign on protecting Amur Falcons at the United Baptist Church, Tamenglong district headquarters today.
The gathering included Church leaders and village chiefs, and Tamenglong DC RH Golmei administered a collective oath not to catch or kill Amur Falcons.

Tamenglong SP Themsing Ngashangva, DFO Huri Golmei, other police and AR officers were also present at the gathering.
Amur Falcons migrate to Manipur every year during winter season from Mongolia and China.
During the awareness programme, Deepak Hodam of the People for Animal gave a power point presentation on the crucial importance of protecting Amur Falcons.
In the course of the campaign, Manaobi MM's play Mahoushagi Maithong was staged at Tupul, Noney, Tamenglong and Tamei.
Meanwhile, it is reported that a team of scientists from the Bombay Natural History Society led by Dr Raju Kangshade would visit Tamenglong and study about Amur Falcons on November 23 together with officials of the Indian Bird Conservation Network, Manipur Chapter.
A team of WWF officials is also scheduled to arrive here on November 28 in order to take up necessary protective measures for Amur Falcons.
A team of the India Bird Conservation Network, Manipur Chapter led by its coordinator RK Birjit would go to Purul, Phuba and Laii to monitor Amur Falcons tomorrow.
