Need for combating rising crime against women & children stressed

A two-day seminar on the topic 'Women & Child Trafficking & Protection' being organized by People's Development Agency (PDA) under the sponsorship of Tribal Research Institute (TRI) began today at Adimjati Amity Hall, Chingmeirong.
Dr L Ibetombi, Chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) and Aram Pamei, former president of NWUM graced the occasion as chief guest and guest of honor respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Ibetombi expressed grave concern over the increasing crime against women and children in different parts of the State and underlined the need for identifying root causes of such unfortunate incidents to combat the menace otherwise it would continue unabated.
She observed that the present alarming rate of crime against women and children could be minimized if culprits involved are taken to task by seeking legal help while noting that women empowerment would not only help in tackling such crimes but it would lift social status of women in the society.
Saying that having decent moral character and civic sense is a sign of good education, she pointed out that the problem of unemployment has created chaos in minds of younger generation which is a serious concern.
In the first session of the seminar, Pradip Kumar, chairperson of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Imphal West as a resource person spoke on the topic 'Overall Situation Focus on JJ Act & Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, 2012' while in the second session, Thiyam Jaya,member of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights deliberated on the topic 'Role of Community in Combating Trafficking of Women & Children' .
