Mob 'attacks' family, Rs 1.5 lakh, jewellery 'missing'

O Mangi (55) of Thanga Chingkha of Bishnupur District who is presently residing at Langol Ningthou Leikai, Imphal West has alleged mob violence against him and his son O Lemba (26).Addressing a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, O Mangi said they were severely assaulted by a group of people on November 29 allegedly on charge that he failed to hand over his youngest son, O Tomba (23) accused in an alleged molestation case on November 28 last.
Mangi alleged that the group of people and members of Welfare Organization, Langol (local club) have threatened his family to abandon the residence at Langol Ningthou Leikai and vacate all the rented house/rooms he has in the same locality.
He asserted that his youngest son (Tomba) was handed over to Lamphel Police Station on November 29 at around 1 pm to verify the allegation levelled against him (Tomba) and for further legal actions.
A group of people numbering around 50 stormed his residence on November 29 while he was sitting at his home, he said and alleged that he was beaten up badly on the ground that he did not handover his accused son to them.
"They were furious because I had handed over my son, who is an accused, to the police," he said.
"They assaulted my other son (Lemba) and vandalised household items," he said.
He further alleged that a sum of Rs 1.5 lakh and jewellery made of 20 sans were found missing after the incident.
Reminding that mob violence is an offence and an anti-mob violence Bill was passed this year in the State, he sought justice against the alleged attack on his family and the 'loot committed' .
