MASLSA conducts free and competent legal aid prog during Sangai Festival

Manipur State Legal Services Authority conducted a mass legal awareness programme during Sangai Festival, 2018 at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboi Khongnangkhong, with the objective of ensuring opportunities for securing proper justice by any citizen.
During the free and competent legal aid programme, RK Memcha Devi, Member Secretary of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) interacted with visitors and talked about free legal services provided under MASLSA.
She said that free legal services include rendering any service in the conduct of a case or other legal proceedings before any Court or other authority of tribunal and giving advice on any legal matter, including ADR.
She further said that legal services are provided by way of providing free and competent legal aid counsels (Panel Advocate), free legal advice, free counselling and preparation of legal documents.
The persons eligible to receive free legal services are members of SC/ST, victims of human trafficking or beggars as referred in Article 23 of the Constitution, a woman or child, mentally ill or otherwise disabled person, victim of mass disaster, ethnic violence, caste atrocity, flood, drought, earthquake or industrial disaster, an industrial workman, person in custody including protective home, juvenile home, psychiatric home, hospital.
psychiatric nursing home or person having annual income not exceeding Rs 3 lakh, she added.
RK Memcha further said that eligible persons may apply to the Member Secretary, MASLSA/Secretary, High Court of Manipur, Legal Services Committee/ Chairman/Secretary, District Legal Services Authority/Legal Aid Clinic with a brief fact of the case as well as copies of relevant documents, of any, with an affidavit.
CJMs are the secretaries for their respective District LSAs, she added.
