Imphal, December 01 2018:
Nupi Ln Memorial Association Manipur kicked off the 79th Nupi Lan celebration month at its head office at Tera Keithel today.
Floral tributes were paid to the brave and courageous mothers who dared to revolt against the British regime during the Nupilal.
A balloon was released to mark the beginning of the month long celebration.
Speaking at the gathering, State awardee and secretary steering committee NLMAM, Longjamba Meetei Netaji conveyed that Nupilan Memorial Association Manipur has not swayed from its responsibility to observe Nupilan celebration month from December 1 till 31 every year.
He said the association has been commemorating the brave mothers who led the Nupilan for three consecutive years (1939, 1940 and 1941) against the malpractices, oppression and injustice of the British Government.
Nupilan, which was a movement for freedom against the British regime was given recognition by the Government of India as a freedom struggle on March 3, 1973 but it was later revoked on September 22,1976, he said.
He further added that the very question of why the recognition was revoked is the sole reason of this observation.
