Tengnoupal, December 01 2018:
Foreign tourists faced major inconveniences when their luggage and bags were subjected to manual checking at Integrated Check Post (ICP) at passenger terminal building by immigration and custom staff due to inadequate scanning equipment.
The said ICP was built under Land Port Authority of India and was started functioning without body scanner and luggage scanner forcing the staff to resort to manual search and checking.
Custom staff posted at ICP said they know that manual checking and search caused inconvenience to the foreign tourists but they are forced to do manual checking of the bags and luggages as Land Port Authority of India has not provided any Body Scanner and Luggage Scanner at the transit and added that custom staff are answerable and will be held responsible if any unwanted incidents happened afterwards.
Besides, the immigration staff posted at passenger terminal building also used register book to entry every record as they have not been provided any computers and other machines to record the entry, they added and said that they also travelled to ICP from their quarters by their own means using auto rickshaw and other vehicles as there is no transport facility for the staff.
They urged the authority concerned to look into the matter at the earliest.
