Ukhrul, September 05 2021:
Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL) has urged the State Government to revoke the Order concerning induction of nine MLAs from the Valley into the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) with immediate effect.
It has also threatened to boycott government activities in the event of failing to heed their plea.
The order issued by the Speaker has to be withdrawn with immediate effect.
In the event of failure to heed our humble request, we will boycott any activities related with the Government of Manipur, said TNWL general secretary Kapahaoleng Angkang in a press statement.
"Are they trying to fool the people just because they are in the hot seat? Or should we consider this as another chapter of division," he questioned.
He said that induction of nine MLAs from the Valley to the HAC is violating the constitutional rights of the Hill Areas under Article 371C."At a time when the Hill districts are fighting for implementation of the Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council Bill, 2021 in the recent Monsoon session, the induction exercise has come as a direct challenge to the Hill people of the state," he contended.
The apex Tangkhul headmen association deplored the bold Order issued by the Assembly Secretariat when the speaker or the chief minister has no say in the matter.
Questioning on what basis the Valley MLAs were inducted in the Committee when they are not a part of it, he said that Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long would not remain a silent spectator to the whole development as the heart of the matter concerns the legitimate rights of the Hill people.
"Direct involvement of the majority community to the Committee by way of inducting the nine MLAs therefore has to be stopped because the said Bill has nothing to do with Valley brethren.
Such politics is bound to have disastrous impact on the Valley-Hill relationship," Angkang cautioned.
