Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: Lt Gen PC Nair flags off 'Freedom cycle rally'

As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration, Assam Rifles organised a 3000 Km long 'Freedom Cycling Rally' from Shillong to New Delhi on September 5 .
The Rally commemorates 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture, achievements and also promotes the Fit India Movement, said a statement of IGAR(S) .
The Cycle Rally which started its journey today from Shillong, plans to touch important places associated with India's freedom movement en-route.
The rally includes numerous interactions with locals to include them in the spirit of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
The rally was flagged off by Lt Gen PC Nair, AVSM, YSM, Director General Assam Rifles at the Directorate General of Assam Rifles Headquarters Laitkor, Shillong.

It was attended by Krishna Lahkar, the 94 year old freedom fighter, NOKs of the freedom fighters, Captain Keishing Clifford Nongrum, MVC, Maj David Manlun, KC and all ranks & families of the Laitkor Garrison.
DG Assam Rifles during his inaugural speech highlighted the role played by the Assam Rifles towards peace and security in the North East.
He stated that through its various Civic Action Programmes, the Assam Rifles plays an important role towards development in the region.
Assam Rifles like the rest of the country has engulfed itself in the celebrations of Azadika Amrit Mahotsav.
As part of the flagging off ceremony, a Pipe Band Display was carried out by the Assam Rifles Pipe Band, which played patriotic tunes to raise the enthusiasm and fervour amongst the participants.
Later, the freedom fighters and their NOKs were also felicitated by DG Assam Rifles.
