MLA Rameshwar urges public to defeat sectarian elements

Imphal, September 05 2021: Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameshwar, who is also the deputy chairman of State Planning Board, has cautioned the people of his constituency to stay away from intending candidates who are trying to divide Keirao AC into three parts - Nongpok, Mayai and Nongchup.

He was attending a felicitation function organised in his honour by Urup Young Civil Club and Urup Shining Star Club at Urup High School on bagging Babu Jagjivan International Award 2021 and for upgrading Urup High School into Higher Secondary School.

Rameshwar said that Keirao is a constituency which displays its unity by six different communities living in it and there are no differences among the communities.

Human beings are one and they simply follow different religions as they are born in different families.

It would be wrong to show the communities as different from one another due to their faith.

Unfortunately, some individuals are trying to whip up communal sentiments to woo voters for the forthcoming election and it is not a good sign, he said, while calling upon the people of Keirao AC to stand against such communal forces, whose only goal is to win election by creating division among the people.

Individuals, who used to sell water, second hand clothes and look after toilets are coming out to contest election and it makes the election a mockery in Keirao AC, he said and urged the voters to choose the only candidate who will work for the common good of the society.

On the other hand, it is unfortunate that some groups of people are trying to paint communal colour in upgrading Urup High School into a Higher Secondary School.

In fact, the school is located at a central location of Keirao AC and it is also one of the schools with maximum number of students.

It is one of the main reasons for the government selecting the school for upgrading, he said and urged for support from the local clubs and school management committee in improving the school's condition.

Being one of the most backward assembly constituencies, it is a tough task to bring all round development in Keirao AC in just five years.

Besides, one and half years have already been wasted by Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite the pandemic, Keirao is at the forefront in health sector among the remaining constituencies of the state.

Thiyam High School is being developed under School Fagathansi Mission, he said, while urging the teachers to bring out their best self in imparting education to their students.

He further said that all roads in Keirao AC will be blacktopped before the election and works will begin just after the rainy season.

On the other hand, tender process for water supply projects at Arapti (Rs 9 crore), Urup (Rs 4 crore and Kyamgei Muslim (Rs 6 crore) has begun and these projects will be completed within five to six months to provide tap water connections to all, he assured.

Urup High School headmaster Kangabam Debchandra, Urup Young Civil Club founder member Khullem Achouba, Keirap Makting GP pradhan Muktiyar, Ward No 9 member Laishram Surjit, Ward No.10 member Mayanglambam Joykumar, ex-councillor of Lilong (Thoubal) Municipal Council Wahengbam Premananda, and Urup High School retired headmaster Mutum Dhananjoy also attended the function.
