Imphal, September 05 2021:
KSO Jiribam & Tamenglong and MSF District Committee Jiribam have jointly declared imposition of indefinite bandh on NH 37, starting from midnight of September 7 until their demands for filling up shortage of teachers in Jiribam district are met.
In a joint release, MSF District Committee Jiribam president Rajiv Atom and KSO J&T secretary Paominngam Haokip stated that they had recently joined hands to sort out the shortage of teachers in Jiribam and Borobekra higher secondary schools, Jiribam district.
With regard to shortage of teachers, the two student bodies had made an appeal to the government to post the requisite number of teachers in Jiribam, after which, the government issued an order for posting three teachers to the said schools, when the exact number of teachers required is six.
As such, they have been demanding the authority concerned to send the remaining three to no avail so far, it stated.
The student bodies also mentioned if the government is not able to provide a replacement for the transferred teachers, then it must revoke the transfer order for the sake of student communities in Jiribam, knowing the fact that there is a shortage of teachers.
Therefore, until their demands are met by the government, they will enforce the bandh on NH 37 from September 7 midnight.
But emergency services, medical, power supply, religious rituals and local business will be exempted from the purview of the bandh, it said.
The release further appealed to the public to support the bandh as it is for the welfare of the people of Jiribam and nearby villages of Tousem sub-division.
If any unwanted incident occurs during the bandh, the government should be held solely responsible, the joint release made it clear.
