'Swarnim Vijay Varsh' football tournament concludes

Song Song beat Rubunamie 2-1 in the final of the football tournament on Sunday at Rubunamie football ground, Song Song, Mao.
The tournament was organised Maram Battalion under the aegis of Jwalamukhi Sector/IGAR (E) to commemorate 50th Vijay Diwas.
During the closing ceremony, the commandant of Maram Battalion recalled the victory of 1971 war and celebration of Swarnim Vijay Varsh.
The aim of the tournament was to motivate youths to join Armed Forces.
The event was closed with the distribution of prizes by the chief guest, commandant of Maram Battalion, a press release from the organiser said.
The Song Song team was awarded a cash prize of Rs 10000 and Rubunamie team was given Rs 5000.Match officials and coordinator were also facilitated.
During the tournament both the teams displayed high degree of sportsmanship and talent.
After the prize distribution a mesmerizing performance was shown by 33 Assam Rifles pipe band on military tunes which was witnessed by about spectators.
Later a tea party was also organised for all the civilians and participants with an interaction of teams with chief guest.
The event concluded with a friendly penalty shootout between Assam Rifles and officials.
The objective of the tournament was to commemorate Vijay Diwas and pay homage to late Lt Col Robert TA Kuba as well as to reach out to the youth and to inculcate game spirit in them.
Other dignitaries from CRPF, TA Battalion and police along with all the village headmen, chairmen, secretaries and youth presidents also witnessed the tournament.
The local village teams were overwhelmed by the gesture shown by Maram Bn and thanked the Assam Rifles for its virtuous act.
The Mao company commander also assured the locals that Assam rifles is a true friend of the hill people and shall always work to maintain a cordial relation and bring peace and harmony in the area, the release added.
