Dr Chandramani, former Dy CM expires, many condole

Former Deputy Chief Minister Dr Leishangthem Chan- dramani Singh passed away at around 11.45 pm last night at Raj Medicity, due to a stroke.
Born on May 15, 1934, Chandramani hailed from Patsoi Part IV, Imphal West, and was the general secretary of Pan Manipur Youth League during 1970s.He joined politics in 1972 and became the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly two times and he also served as Deputy Chief Minister of the State two times.
Dr L Chandramani, who was also a former president of Manipur People's Party (MPP), is the author of 'History of Manipur', 'The boundaries of Manipur' and 'Athoubasing-gee Ningshing Numit'.
Meanwhile Chief Minister N Biren Singh and many others have condoled the demise of former Deputy Chief Minister Dr L Chandramani Singh.
"I am aggrieved to learn about the sad demise of veteran leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Dr L Chandramani Singh...Manipur has lost a great leader who was known for his oratory skills and in-depth knowledge of history.
His demise has left a huge void in the political circle of the State.
I extend my deepest condolence to the bereaved family.
My thoughts and prayers are with them at this hour of grief," said N Biren.
Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Y Khem- chand Singh too has condoled the sudden demise of the veteran politician and reminded that Chandramani was an authoritative historian, eminent academician, a noteworthy politician and a tireless social worker.
His passing away has left a vacuum in social, academic and political arena of Manipur, the Speaker said, extending condolences to the bereaved family members.
Inner Manipur Lok Sabha MP, Dr RK Ranjan also condoled the untimely demise of Dr L Chandramani.
Dr Ranjan stressed that Chandramani was a social activist, a political leader and a great author, adding that he was closely associated and had worked with Chandramani.
RK Ranjan praised the deceased veteran politician by saying that his books revived and restored the glorious history of Manipur.
Chandramani contributed a lot to the cause of socially and politically deprived section of the society as general secretary of Pan Manipur Youth League, which was a social and political organization founded in 1968 with a revolutionary commitment to awakeng the Manipuris from the slumber of colonial rule and its hangover, Dr RK Ranjan said, extending sympathies to the bereaved family members of the late politician.
Dr Thokchom Meinya, ex-Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) also condoled the sudden demise of Dr L Chandramani.
He conveyed that he used to address Chandramani as Tachou Chandramani and remarked that he was one of the few role models for the people in the locality.
His death is an irreparable loss to the State and he has had many eventful moments in his public service, Meinya added, praying for the departed soul to rest in peace.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president M Okendro too condoled the demise of Dr L Chandramani Singh.
"My deepest condolences to all his family members and loved ones.
He was a distinguished personality and an excellent orator.
He defended interest of Manipur at crucial times and now those moments shall remain as part of our history.
Manipur has lost a very important son and we all will keep on remembering his works.
May his soul rest in peace," said M Okendro.
Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India has also mourned the demise of Dr L Chandramani Singh.
He authored many books on history which would remain invaluable sources of knowledge for the youth, said CPI praying for the departed soul to rest in peace.
The party also condoled the demise of Wahengbam Maipakpi Devi, wife of former Chief Minister W Nipamacha and shared sorrow of the bereaved family members.
