Rice seedlings ready for distribution: AUFA

Arapti Urup Farmers Association (AUFA) has informed that rice seedlings prepared under the aegis of CM N Biren, Keirao AC MLA, Lourembam Rameshwar Meetei and Lilong AC MLA, Md Abdul Nasir is ready for transplantation and distribution to rice cultivators of the State.
AUFA chairman, Konthoujam Ibotombi is media interaction, said that AUFA started the seedling process of the rice breed, RCM-12 from February 13 using 1 acre at Arapti Tanakha Loukon as a nursery area.
The rice breed is meant for first cropping (Anganfou) and matures in 90-105 days before kharif season begins.
The seedlings are now ready for transplantation to the seedbeds (paddy fields) but owing to the paucity of water, the association will not be able to successfully cultivate the rice this year, he said while urging other intending farming community in the State with adequate irrigation facility to collect the seedlings and stop them from going to waste.
He said Arapti Tanaka Loukon covers an area of about 250 paris (local measurement unit of area) and lies along the stretch of Iril River, which is almost dried up now.
The seedlings AUFA prepared can be transplanted to around 50 paris, he said.
