COVID-19 : Thabal organisers and more donate money, essential goods

A group of girls have donated money they collected during Yaoshang to a local club to provide relief materials to people during the lockdown.
The funds raised by Kyamgei Khagemba Youth Club, Meira Paibi, Purnima Marup along with girls of the locality to organise Thabal Chongba was donated to buy essential items for relief distribution to the people of the locality today, stated a press release issued by The Kyamgei Khagemba Youth Club.
The money was used to buy items like potatoes, cooking oil, salt and fermented fish (Ngari) .

The items were distributed to the locals at Kyamgei Mayai Leikai Club, it said.
Girls of Top Awang Leikai also distributed essential goods to the households within Ward no 2 of Top Dusara Gram Panchayat, Imphal East district.
They distributed one packet each of Ngari (250 gram), edible oil and papad to a total of 170 households.
The goods they distributed today were amounted to around Rs 35,000 .
The items were bought with the money they collected for organising Thabal Chongba during Yaoshang festival but could not be organised after the State Government imposed a ban on mass gatherings as part of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
To ease the shortage of food items due to the lockdown on account of COVID-19 pandemic, Councillors of Ward No 1, 4, 6, 8 and 9 of Lilong Municipal Council (LMC) also handed out relief materials to households under their respective wards.
Councillor of Ward No 1, Chongtham Kishorkumar Meetei and founder of Khuman Industries, Ahongsangbam Boiton Singh conducted the door to door campaign and handed out food items to 600 households and around 70 families living at rent.
Councillor of Ward No 4, Maibam Joykumar distributed similar items to around 300 items in his ward while Vice Chairperson of LMC who is also the Councillor of Ward No 6, Seram Sanatomba facilitate around 600 households with edible items.
Chairperson of LMC, Lamabam Lalmani (Councillor of Ward No 8) and Councillor of Ward No 9, Nameirakpam Gitabali also distributed food items to 600 and 300 households in their respective wards.
Chairperson, Lamabam Lalmani also appealed all to stay at home and maintain social distancing to break the chain of transmission of COVID-19 which has so far claimed more than 67,000 lives globally.
Pradhan, Up-Pradhan and ward members of Pungdongbam Gram Panchayat distributed potatoes and onions to 2385 households of seven Wards under the Panchayat, said a statement of Pungdongbam GP Pradhan.
The goods were distributed to relieve the suffering of the people as a result of the lockdown imposed by the Government following COVID-19 .
To allay the shortage of essential supply during lockdown imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19, social worker L Sanjoy has extended food items at few localities under Andro AC today.
As a part of his noble campaign which began yesterday, the social worker handed out the edible items specially to needy families of Yairipok Tulihal.
"I am going to continue the same at various parts of the Andro AC", he said while expressing contentment on serving the poverty-stricken families.
As a part of his campaign, he also urged all to remain at home and follow the guidelines issued by the Government and health agencies.
