Imphal, June 19 2022:
While asserting that Ag-nipath recruitment scheme will be disastrous for the country, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) general secretary Dr S Manaoton has said that it will be better for the BJP-led NDA government at the centre to withdraw the scheme if the party really loves the country and thinks for welfare of youth.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhawan here on Sunday, Dr S Manaoton said that Agnipath scheme would be a factor for ending future of the country and implementing the scheme would affect the country in many ways.
India stands in fourth position after USA, Russia and China in defence and it is mandatory for the nation to strengthen its defence capability in view of efforts being made to become permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
However, it is questionable as to how far a soldier who joins defence service for only four years could dedicate his life for the nation, he said, adding that it is laughable when youth are sent for defence of nation after providing training for only six months.
While ridiculing the BJP's allegation that the ongoing agitation against Agnipath scheme is being incited by Opposition parties, the MPCC general secretary pointed out that BJP ruled states like UP and Bihar have started protest against the scheme.
Agnipath scheme is being brought out to reduce defence budget as the country's economy has turned from bad to worse since the coming of the BJP-led NDA government, he claimed, adding that it was very unfortunate that such a step has been taken in key sector like defence.
MPCC secretary Bankimchandra, who also attended the press conference, said that Agnipath scheme is a hollow one and the BJP brought out this scheme with a short thought as the party would not be able to give answer to the joblessness among youth of the nation when the Lok Sabha election approaches.
He also said that Agnipath scheme violates Constitution of the country as it was not discussed in the Parliament and the BJP pushed the scheme forcibly to take political mileage.
