Senapati, June 19 2022:
The Tumuyon Khullen Village Authority council has come out strongly against continued plantation of poppy cultivation in areas under its jurisdiction by tenants without their knowledge.
In a statement issued by village chairman A Maraiba, Tumuyon Khullen Village Authority accused neighbouring communities of indulging in poppy plantation under the village jurisdiction despite enforcing restriction for the last three years.
"Every year we inform through all leading newspapers of the state, social media and through direct contact of the restriction.
However, some of the neighbouring communities continue the plantation without paying heed to our requests and warnings", said the release.
In this connection, a large-scale destruction was also done by cutting down poppy plants by village volunteers in the previous year and in the beginning of current year.
The village authority had also submitted a letter of support to state chief minister through DC Kangpokpi on "War on Drugs 2.0" mission on March 29 last, it said.
The village authority reiterated its request to all the poppy cultivators in their land to stop this easy money method which in turn would ruin the entire human kind and asked them to choose for alternate crop cultivation.
The statement also mentioned that they don't enjoy destroying vast plantation of poppy but are compelled to destroy poppy plantation because it will kill somebody else on the other hand.
The village further warned that they will continue the enforcement to restrict pop py cultivation within their jurisdiction and will take stringent action if necessary.
It is also requested all to stop large scale forest destruction for poppy cultivation and start afforestation and live harmoniously irrespective of communities in their land.
