Tripura prepares for Bhagyachandra tribute event

Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation Manipur spokesperson Takhellambam Irabot has said that Manipuris settling in Tripura could keep alive their age old tradition as long as they keep the habit of speaking Manipuri language.
Irabot stated this during an event organised in connection with the 282nd birth anniversary celebration of Rajarshi Bhagyachandra to be held at Radha Manjuir Mandap, Dakabari, Bishagarh district, Tripura on June 21.As requested by Tripura deputy chief minister Jishnu Deb Barman to showcase Manipuri cultural items at different places inhabited by Manipuris in Tripura, a cultural troupe accompanying Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation Mani pur showcased Thang-ta martial arts, Nupa Pala of Nata Sankirtana and Goura Leela during the event.
The event was also attended by late Maharaj Bodhchandra's wife Rani Khibir's youngest grand-daughter R Hema Manjuri, who is presently residing in Tripura.
According to Irabot, a statue of Rajarshi Bhagyachandra will be unveiled during the 282nd birth anniversary celebration of the then ruler of Manipur at Radha Mandap.
Meanwhile, a resident of Dakabari informed that the locality has around 70 Meitei families and around 100 families at nearby locality and all the families are preserving the age old Meitei tradition and they live with pride of being Manipuri.
