Imphal, June 19 2022:
While suggesting that the government refrain from claiming electrification of villages by providing solar plates, K Paolin, who is chairman of Kangjang village in Senapati district, said that real electricity and solar plate could not be compared.
He further urged for providing proper electricity to the village.
A team of media persons visited Kangjang village recently during it came to light that there is no convention power supply in the village.
Instead, the villagers were found using solar plates provided by MANIREDA.
The village could not be declared as an electrified one as it is it yet to avail actual benefit of electricity, the villagers said.
Speaking in this regard, chairman K Paolin recounted that the village has been facing tremendous inconveniences as there is no power supply.
The village used to depend on pinewood and kerosene for lighting.
However, in 2028 MANIRE-DA provided 18 solar plates to the village which has 50 households.
As such every household could not get lighting facility, he added.
The chief further said that some of the solar plates are not working due to technical problem or defective battery.
Authorities concerned were urged to repair the solar plates but failed to do so till date.
Subsequently, the village has resumed the earlier practice of keeping the houses illuminated using pine wood and kerosene, the chairman said.
Recalling that CM N Biren assured of electrification of the village during the Barak festival held in 2019, Paolin lamented that the CM is yet to translate his assurance into action.
Maintaining that a village could not be announced as electrified by providing solar plate, he urged to supply real electricity to the village and further urged the government to mitigate the inconveniences faced by the villagers.
He pointed out that the village has a primary school but most of the teachers posted in the school do not attend class regularly.
Instead, they hire some villagers as substitutes for them.
The teachers also do not give any money to those substitutes, he contended, while urging the government and department concerned to look into the matter and improve the school.
