Ukhrul, June 19 2022:
Heavy thunderstorms on Saturday night left a trail of destruction on standing electric poles in Shimtang village area, about 10 km west of Ukhrul town, leading to power cuts in the entire district.
On Sunday morning, residents of Ukhrul district woke up to power outages amid heavy rains and storms.
An official source from Manipur State Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MSPDCL), Ukhrul said that the power supply remained disrupted due to uprooting of twin electric poles in Shimtang village area by the storms last night.
However, MSPDCL, Ukhrul has no au thority over the storm affected area as it is within the jurisdiction of Manipur State Power Corporation Limited (MSPCL), the source conveyed.
Quoting reports from MSPCL, the source informed that a technical team of MSPCL is scheduled to reach the spot by Monday morning for restoration of the damaged poles.
It is, however, learnt that it may take two-three days for MSPCL to complete the restoration work since their staff are not readily stationed in the district.
In view of this, MSPDCL Ukhrul has offered to send its manpower to assist the MSPCL team so as to speed up the restoration work, the source stated.
The source also mentioned that the joint team would try their best to restore power supply by Monday.
"If heavy rains and thunderstorms would not disrupt the restoration team, we are hopeful that the work would be done by tomorrow", the source added.
