Imphal, June 19 2022:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has demanded the government to appoint regular principals, fill up the vacant posts of teachers of colleges and to conduct rationalisation of teachers based on subjects.
Addressing a press meet at its office premises here on Sanday, DESAM secretary general M Somorjit said that the demand for appointment of regular principal in colleges is a long drawn issue, which has been stalled by the respective governments.
So far, 24 government colleges and six government aided colleges are being run by principal in-charges and many of them have been serving as in-charge for the last 25 years.
Even though MPSC recommended candidates for the post of principals, the government appointed them as in charge, which is unacceptable, he said while reiterating the demand for appointment of regular principals of colleges before the upcoming academic session.
On the other hand, the existing teaching staff will not be adequate to implement the New Education Policy, which will introduce undergraduate courses.
DESAM has been raising the issue with the government for a long time with the demand to fill up the vacant posts of teaching and non-teaching staff, and to carry out rationalisation of teachers based on subjects.
Unfortunately, the government is remaining silent over the matter till date, he lamented.
