Imphal, July 09 2026: Rajya Sabha MP A Sharda Devi has claimed that only the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can safeguard Manipur.

She made the statement while addressing a felicitation ceremony organised for retired IRS officer Gaigong-din Panmei, who joined the saffron party today.

The former IRS officer who retired as the Principal Director General under CBiC said he decided to join the saffron party after placing faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inclusive philosophy and his vision of making India a developed Nation.

Addressing the event held at Thambal Shanglen, Nityaipat Chuthek, today, Sharda, who is also the president of BJP Manipur Pradesh, stated that conflicts among different communities would hinder India's journey towards becoming a developed Nation by 2047 .

She appealed to all communities to shun violence and resolve the issues affecting Manipur through dialogue.

She also urged people to exercise restraint and work towards restoring normalcy in the State.

Claiming that the BJP's Central leadership has always stood for protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur, Sharda reiterated that only the saffron party can safeguard the State.

She further said that India has been progressing rapidly on the path of development since Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power.

She also stated that the BJP has emerged as the largest political party in the world during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Refuting allegations that the BJP is a communal political party, she pointed out that Dr APJ Abdul Kalam served as the President of India during the BJP-led Government, while the current President, Droupadi Murmu, belongs to the Scheduled Tribe community.

She appealed to party workers and the public to extend their support to the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Gaigongdin Panmei said that he joined the BJP after placing his faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inclusive philosophy and his vision of making India a developed Nation.

Later Gaigongdin accompanied by Sharda and others called on Chief Minister Y Khemchand.

The programme was also attended by Nungba Assembly Constituency MLA Dinganglung Ganmei, BJP Manipur general secretary P Premananda, and BJP Tamenglong president Daniel Malangmei among others.
