'Rastriya Bal Swathya Karyakram' advances in Tamenglong

A mission called 'Rastriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram' (RBSK) which was launched in the month of July this year to screen child health and early intervention from grassroots level under National Rural Health Mission, NRHM is advancing in Tamenglong district.
Child health screening and early intervention services under NRHM is envisage to cover 30 identified health conditions for early detection and free treatment and management.
In order to cover all government schools in Tamenglong district, Rastriya Bal Swathya Karyakram mission has been divided into four teams like Tamenglong block, Nungba block, Tamei block and Tousem block.
The teams comprise doctors and nurses.
These doctor teams have to walk tirelessly and enthusiastically miles and miles on foot to reach remote far flung villagers of Tamenglong district with handful of gifts to underprivileged children.
In an exclusive interview with the Hueiyen Lanpao Daily, the team disclosed that they visited 55 schools and 5 Anganwadi Centres in which they came across many diseases afflicted to underprivileged school children.
"We detected the diseases from the 30 listed identified health conditions and gave referral card to those students who found positive case through the headmaster/ teacher to get free treatment and free medicos from District Hospital, Primary Health Centre (PHC) or Community Health Centre (CHC).
If the child needs further treatment the Medical Officer in-charge will again refer it to RIMS or JNIMS, Imphal.
'At the time of examining the child condition, we gave whatever medicine.
However as we carry very less medicine to help them', stated Mary Jiangui ANM Nurse.
The team also reportedly came across many uncountable positive cases from 30 listed identified health conditions from 55 schools and 5 Anganwadi Centres.
The team has many schools and Anganwadi centres to be covered.
Apart from detection of child health, the team also provides awareness on cleanliness, health education, awareness on weekly iron folic sulphate, adolescence reproductive sexual health, menstruation, etc.
Responding to this Daily, the team said that the Rastriya Bal Swathya Karyakram mission was very good and helpful for the children particularly those far flung villages.
Dr.Khetrajit told this reporter that the common disease like Down's syndrome, cleft lip & palate, anaemia, skin fungal infection, Otitis media, Dental caries, Vision impairment, language delay, learning disorder, congenital deafness, etc.
are found common in the village.
However, there was no serious disease found in the village schools.
The team also disclosed that it demonstrated hand washing techniques to the school students.
The team opined that if such mission continues there won't be health problem and the health of the child in the remote villages will improve.
