Two individuals have been arrested by Anti-Smuggling Unit of Customs Division, Imphal along with 12 gold biscuits this afternoon.
Customs Division, Imphal Assistant Commissioner RK Darendrajit said that the two individuals were arrested after receiving a specific tip off.
On searching their bodies, six gold biscuits each were found concealed inside their rectums.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rajinder Singh (34) s/o Balbir Singh from Tarun Tarun Road, Amritsar, Punjab and Saroj Kumar Yadav (23) s/o Dukhi Yadav from Khajuri, Madhubani district, Bihar.
The gold biscuits weigh around 1.9 Kg and its monetary value is around Rs 62 lakh.
Gold concealed inside rectums were seized earlier too using X-Ray machine and metal detectors but this was the first time gold concealed inside rectums have been seized without using any machine, Darendrajit said.
The gold biscuits were smuggled from Myanmar and the smugglers were supposed to travel to Dimapur by bus before boarding a train for Delhi, he added.
