Speaking to media persons at JCILPS office today afternoon, the students' wing convenor Manjit Sarangthem said that a day after the incident of dismantling the illegal fruit vendors constructed above the footpath in front of Bhairodan Maxwell Hindi Primary High School in the heart of the city, the students wing and JCILPS leaders held a meeting with MAHUD Minister and other officials concerned on May 3.During the meeting the MAHUD Minister assured that the Government would take up steps to shift the fruit vendors to a proper place within a month's time.
It has almost been a month but not a single work regarding shifting the illegal fruit vendors have been taken up by the Government till date, he claimed.
If the State Government and MAHUD fail to shift the fruit vendors within the previously agreed time frame, the association will launch intensified forms of agitation and dismantle the illegal fruit vendors's structures in the area, he added.
On the other hand, Manjit stated that soon after the association's act of dismantling the illegal fruit vendors's structures in the area, die State police personnel were found conducting drives against the illegal shops (without proper license) and non local street vendors nearby Ima Keithel for around 8 days.
But as the police and the IMC discontinued the process after some days the area has been occupied by the unlicensed shop owners again, he alleged.
Manjit Sarangthem also condemned the viral video containing inflammatory speeches/ threats circulating on Facebook and Whatsapp and urged fhe authority concerned to arrested those involved in circulating such video clips at the earliest.
On the other hand, Manjit appreciated die works taken up by Manipur police in different parts of the State and along the National Highways regarding frisking/checking and verification of non locals during the last few days.
He appealed to the Home Department to open similar check posts for checking and verifying illegal migrants or those who are entering the State without proper identification proofs, at Behiang (Churachandpur) and at Nagaland Manipur border Jessami.
Manjit added that the association has learned that large numbers of illegal immigrants are entering from the said two routes.
