Table top exercise on earthquake scenario held

Manipur State Disaster Management Authority (MSDA) in collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), New Delhi conducted a Table Top Exercise for State Level Mock Exercise on Earthquake Scenario at the conference hall of Old Secretariat, Babupara here on Tuesday.
The aim of the Mock Exercise which was jointly chaired by additional chief secretary (Relief and Disaster Management) MH Khan and NDMA consultant retired major general Sudhir Bahl was to check preparedness for an earthquake disaster at state level and to give awareness on how to manage and response when earthquake occurs.
During the programme, stakeholders like police, army, paramilitary forces, Medical Department, Electricity Department, Assam Rifles, district administrations, etc., were trained in order to assess their responses to earthquake disaster situation by retired major general Sudhir Bahl.
Talking to media persons in connection with the exercise, Sudhir Bahl informed that during the Table Top Exercise, representatives of various stakeholders dis cussed different aspects of earthquake disaster.
What the representatives are learning today will be actually executed physically during mock drill that will be held on April 21.Manipur which falls in seismic Zone V is the second state where such mock exercise is being conducted after more than two years.
The exercise comprises three stages, with coor dination exercise already being conducted with state stakeholders, Tuesday's table top exercise is the second stage and the third stage will be conducted on April 21, he informed.
Sudhir Bahl also asked the people to prepare for saving lives and economic assets from earthquake disaster.
Additional chief secretary (Relief and Disaster Management) MH Khan informed that the mock drill exercise on April 21 will be held at JNIMS Hospital for Imphal East and CIPET, Takyelpat, for Imphal West with similar programmes also at DC complexes of Thoubal and Bishnupur.
Pointing out that Manipur was hit hard by earthquake in 2016, he said that the mock exercise was held to give awareness with regard to preparedness of facing the disaster.
All government functionaries, volunteers, officials were trained on how to take precautionary measures and handling things at the time of earthquake disaster, he added.
During the exercise, evaluation on the preparedness of the district concerned was carried out along with raising awareness to the participants based on National Disaster Management guidelines.
In the technical session, discussions were held with the participants highlighting the role and responsibilities of the stakeholders.
The exercise was also attended by relief & disaster management director KG Daigong, joint secretary (Relief & Disaster Management A Shivadas Sharma, senior-level officials of the state, representatives of Army, CRPF, Manipur Police, Fire Service Department, Assam Rifles, stakeholders from Thoubal, Imphal East, Imphal West and Bishnupur districts.
