Horticulture stalls impressing visitors

Stalls of Horticulture & Soil Conservation Department being opened at Hapta Kangjeibung and Moirang Khunou venues of the ongoing Manipur Sangai Festival are attracting more visitors than other stalls.
With the showcasing of different indigenous products produced by entrepreneurs taking up different projects/schemes of the department, visitors thronged the department's stalls and purchase their items of choice.
Horticulture director Hani Chara along with joint di rector K Devdutta Sharma visited Hapta Kangjeibung and inspected stalls of the department on Friday evening.
Devdutta told media persons on the sidelines of the inspection that the stalls of the department are being opened at the festival to showcase activities of the department to the people particularly high value organic crops produced by farmer producer organisations and entrepreneurs promoting Manipur Organic Mission Agency.
Notable organic crops being showcased at the department's stalls include GI tagged orange of Tamenglong, Hathei chilli of Sirarakhong and Kachai lemon.
Apart from these crops, mushroom products promoting Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) and exotic fruits like kiwi and avocado are being showcased at the stalls, he added.
Manifresh brand products produced under Value Chain Marketing through Brand Building Initiative launched under the initiative of chief minister N Biren and the horticulture minister are also showcased at the stalls.
The scheme was launched to process would be spoiled fruits with value addition to enhance economy of farmers, he said, adding that crops produced under the Scheme are being upgraded with more quality and packaging to attract customers.
Visitors favoured Manifresh brand products launched under Vocal for Local and stalls of the department have so far sold organic items worth more than Rs 70,000, K Devdutta Sharma added.
