Tamenglong, November 25 2022:
The 1st Winter Sports Meet of Konphung Segment was held at Konphung village situated in the border area of Manipur and Nagaland under Tamei subdivision, Tamenglong district.
Social Worker and State BJP leader Wilubou Newmai who attended the function as chief guest gave a bird's eye view of safeguarding borders which in turn will make the Nation strong.
He said that Northeast is a beautiful place where so many ethnic and indigenous groups with their respective distinct cultures live together since time immemorial.
But today the influx of immigrants from neighbouring countries like Bangladesh and Myanmar is outnumbering the indigenous population of North-East, he said with concern.
Wilubou said that local people in North East been in contention on many issues against each others but they are toothless against illegal immigrants who come to take over their lands and it is the reason behind the growth of population of "outsiders" at an alarming rate in the region.
Wilubou urged people living in the border areas of Manipur and Nagaland to rise up/wake up and double their efforts to fight those aiming to destroy the country.
"There is no shortage of economic migrants, if we don't stop or resist this issue of flow of illegal immigrants into India's Northeast from Bangladesh and Myanmar, illegal migrants will outnumber the local population by 2050.It's time to adopt tough immigration policy.
The only solution to stop illegal immigration is to close the borders and deport illegal immigrants back to where they came from", Wilubou Newmai said.
Wilubou Newmai also said that North East has been lagging behind the rest of the country but today under the Modi Government the growth of infrastructure in North-East has kept pace with the rest of the country.
Previous Governments never focused on the neglected and border areas.
Today, the focus of Modi Government is on border and the most neglected areas as the country's future rests on progress of these areas, he said.
He also encouraged young players to work hard with full confidence and determination to achieve greater height in their respective games and bring laurels to the country.
