Pulsating music marks Sangai Fest at Geljang

A blend of rock, folk and popular music, cultural shows, Meet the Artistes programme marked the Sangai Festival at Geljang Resort, Churachandpur today.
Besides grooving to some awesome tunes and celebrating the rich cultural heritage, visitors were offered the chance to explore handloom and handicraft products, food and beverage, art and craft of the district at one of its most exotic spot Geljang Resort, surrounded by lush green hills, and lakeside scenic view.
The programme was attended by Trade, Commerce & Industries Minister Nemcha Kipgen; MLA of Thanlon and adviser to CM Vungzagin Valte; MLA of Churachandpur AC LM Khaute; Vumlunmang Vualnam, Additional Chief Secretary, Sharath Chandra Arroju, Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur; SP Shivanand Surve, other Govt officials and DLOs of the district.
VIPs who spoke during the function today were all praise for the State Govt for expanding the Sangai Festival to other parts of the State.
Besides sharing the background of the Sangai Festival in the State, they urged all concerned to celebrate the festival in the true spirit of the theme - festival of oneness.
Troupes from various tribes of Churachandpur presented their respective colourful cultural dances in the morning session.
Rock concert christened Khuga Waves in the evening featuring several bands that performed various western and local rock songs set the festive vibes to the hilt across the scenic lakeside.
The bands that performed today included Kaicho, The Rigvedaz, Jimmy Thang (Side B) from Delhi and Zonam Rabbi.
While popular artistes such as Joshua Buhril, Christina Shakum, Jajai Singsit enthralled the crowd with their hit songs, a solo guitar show by Vawnchawi Vaiphei left the crowd in awe.
A folk song presentation by Rosy Heisnam and Team and K-Pop dance by Duality received wide admiration from the crowd.
Meet the Stars programme featuring Manipuri film actress Soma Laishram who is also the brand Ambassador of Tourism Dept and other singers and actresses was another crowd puller.
The Sangai festival celebration here will wind up with another music performance from Mizoram based music band Sound from the Hills, other local artistes and designer Robert Naorem's fashion show which will feature Miss Universe (2000) Lara Dutta tomorrow evening at Lamka Public ground.
The programme will start at 4 pm.
