Imphal, June 25 2014:
Along with launching a cease work strike for four days starting from today, the casual and muster roll employees of Forest Department staged a sit-in-protest at the office premises of the department here to exert pressures on the authority concerned to fulfil their long pending demands.
According to All Manipur Forest Department Employees' & Workers' Union, the government had already given nod for placing 266 casual and muster roll employees of the department on contract basis on December 21, 2013 but the same has been not done so far due to alleged inaction of the concerned authorities of the department and Ministers.
At present, the department is running with 797 staffs against the required strength of 1174 and there are 377 vacant posts lying vacant.
The union had submitted a memorandum to Chief Conservator, Forest Department on June 11 highlighting their long pending demands and needs for fulfilling them at the earliest so as to enable the department to run effectively but no positive response was given.
If the demands are not met even after the cease work strike which will continue till June 28, the union warned that it would take recourse to more intense agitations.
