Makhan Union clarifies on land dispute

Imphal, June 25 2014:
Referring to the incident which broke out between Makhan Village and Maram Khullen Circle villages on June 24, the Ekhramei Makhan Union clarified that the violence broke out when the a Makhan woman who was cultivating at the adjacent encroachment area was attacked by five miscreants who possessed lethal weapons.
Therefore, the frightened woman had to run for her life and shout for help from the neighbouring people.
According to a statement issued by the information and publicity wing of Ekhramei Makhan Union, Makhan people had never used any sophisticated weapon like AK47, M-16+Carbines as claimed by one of the Maram circle villagers.
The statement further clarified that Maram Khullen Circle villages had been forcefully and illegally occupied.
Not only that, paddy fields in Kashi Nezhepho which is a Makhan land were also destroyed by the cattles of illegal occupants intentionally, the statement added.
In order to resolve the ongoing issue amicably, the Makhan Union had already submitted an ultimatum to the District Administration concerned on March 22, 2013, the statement said.
On March 26, 2013, similar incident took place over the disputed land and the DC issued a prohibitory order under Section 144(2) Cr.P.C on March 26, 2013 which restricted any activities in the disputed land.
The statement said that even though the DC assured compensation for the damaged houses and injured victims, they were were law violators.
It further warned the illegal occupants to vacate the area before any unwanted incident takes place.
