After Manipur successfully hosted the National Canoeing and Kayaking Championship at loktak lake in 2012, the Works Minister personally inspected Loktak lake to study whether the sports discipline of Yachting can be introduced at Loktak lake.
The Minister said he was accompanied by the joint secretary of Yachting Association of India, General Commander Bedi Singh during the inspection of Loktak lake and added that after noticing the strong wind on the surface of the lake at Komlakhong and the Hiden near Sangaisabi in Mayang Imphal, they decided that the Hiden is the ideal place for the sports discipline to be played.
There will be no technical problem in staging the yachting at the Hiden near Sangaisabi, said Ratankumar and added that there is not much need to invest in infrastructure either.
There will also be no problems posed by phumdis.
Stating that the Indian Naval chief as the president of the Yachting Association of India has shown keen interest in developing this particular sport discipline in the State, Ratankumar said that it falls in line with India's Look East Policy and would also go a long way in promoting tourism.
Joint Secretary General Bedi Singh, during the inspection tour has also given his nod to host the game at Loktak lake, said the Minister and added that a naval NCC unit of the sport would be set up as Imphal Loktak Lake Club at Loktak lake.
