A new office of MGNREGA constructed under Bharat Nirman Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendra at Khongnang Ani Longbi at Oinam Leirak Machin along MU Road was inaugurated during a function organized by Maibam Leikai Gram Panchayat in Wangoi CD Block in Imphal west today.
The inauguration function was attended by Imphal West Adhayksha Y.Dasumati Devi, Pradhan of Maibam Leikai Gram Panchayat Ng.
Kunjarani and Langthabal ZP member S.Ronel Meitei as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The office was constructed at the cost of Rs.10 lakhs.
During the function, S.Ronel Meite said although the job card holders are entitled to 100 days work under the guidelines of MGNREGA, they are utilized for work only for a few days in Imphal west district due to non-release of adequate funds by the government.
During the last year also, works could not be implemented fully due to fund crunch, he added.
If the job card holders had submitted applications for availing of the due works for the 100 days, they would have received non-employment allowance from the government, Ronel maintained, while lamenting that no job card holder had applied for the same and thus government has been remaining silent on the matter.
He appealed to the job card holders to submit applications for work for the 100 days a year to avail benefits.
He further stated that the Manipur government has started implemented National Food Security Act from the month of July, and urged the MLAs not to intervene in the selection of beneficiaries, which is to be done by the Local Authority (ULB) under the scheme guidelines.
While charging the local MLAs for taking electoral advantage of the various government schemes such as Old Age pension, Family Benefit schemes, Food Security schemes and MGNREGA, Ronel Meitei appealed to the people to work together for the welfare of the state.
