A team of Siamsinpawlpi (SSPP), an apex student organisation based in Churachandpur district, led by its president Thangzamang Ngaihte on Tuesday visited Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) and carried out fact finding activities regarding reports of ragging incident at the school by senior students.
The student leaders interacted with the school authorities headed by its vice-principal in-charge Devla Chanu and PGT chemistry teacher Rameshwar.
The SSPP team brought up the issue of ragging incidents by senior students and pointed out that the issue has reached a point where it could not be put under wrap while drawing attention of the school authority for resolving the matter.
The SSPP leaders expressed disappointment over the loss of prospective careers of a student due to ragging while further questioning if they have Anti-Ragging Cell in the school.
School authority in response cited lack of warden as the reason of the unfortunate incident as students are appointed to enforce discipline amongst themselves.
The SSPP leaders also spoke about their plans for taking drastic steps to ensure that no such incident occur in future.
On further enquiry, it has been learnt that a good number of students were victims of ragging and they are not disclosing such incidents due to fear of reprisal.
One student suffered harsh treatment and abuse from seniors after he entered the school in 6th standard in 2019-2020 academic session due to which he almost got dropped out from school.
According to the student, who is now reading in 8th standard, he receives lots of abuse and beatings from seniors on the charge that he is not respecting them.
Those incidents put a mental trauma on him and he was admitted to the district hospital in 2020 with hypertension and other health conditions, the SSPP team said.
