NCM member reviews programmes for minorities

Member of National Commission for Minorities (NCM) Praveen Davar is on a four-day visit to Manipur.
The NCM member has already held meeting with several top Government officials and reviewed the implementation of the Prime Minister's 15-point programmes under Welfare of Minorities and Multi-Sectoral Development Programme (MsDP) in Manipur.
Praveen Davar called on the Chief Minister O Ibobi and discussed various issues on development of minorities in the State particularly creation of separate department for minorities; modernization of Madrassas by sending proposal to HRD Ministry for adequate funding and MsDP schemes in Manipur.
In a statement, Minorities and Other Backward Classes (MOBC) Director Kh Dineshchandra said Davar arrived Imphal on April 10 and attended a meeting with Chief Secretary PC Lawnkunga on April 11 in the Conference Hall, Manipur Secretariat, South Block, Imphal.
Senior officers of the State Government like Additional DGP, Principal Secretaries and Deputy Commissioners also attended in the meeting.
He reviewed the progress in the implementation of various schemes under the 15-point programme for minorities in all the districts of Manipur.
Various problems in the implementation of MsDP were also discussed during the meeting.
Praveen is also in-charge of Manipur for improvement in the implementation of the various schemes.
The importance and urgency of the modernization of Madrassas and promotion of Urdu also highlighted during the discussion.
He also expressed his desire to visit the interior of Manipur in future.
Davar met and interacted with leaders/representatives of various religious minorities in the conference hall of Hotel Classic, Imphal.
Minority leaders had also requested the NCM member to establish separate Minority Welfare Department in Manipur and to up-grade the Lilong Haoreibi College into a university besides timely disbursement of minority scholarships, etc.
Rehabilitation and justice for the victims of 1993 communal riots were also discussed during the meeting.
