Imphal, April 12 2015 :
The Maram Students' Union (MKS) has refuted the claim of the All Manipur Hill Districts Contract Basis Teachers' Association that it has forced the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to stop construction of Maram-Peren road on NH-129/A .
It is a matter of deep regret that the association attempted to create 'cheap' impression on the general public that the local populace of Maram-Peren stretch support the policy of disrupting developmental works in the area, said a statement.
It further said that the baseless allegation has been considered a disrespect to the civil societies of the area, who are judiciously safeguarding the common interest of the region.
The allegation that the labourers have stopped their work following the directive of the teacher's body is misleading and far from the truth, the statement said.
MKS said that the claim has the potential to damage the image of BRO, whose works are always impressive.
Although, MKS shares the genuine grievances of the hill people, the approach of the association and portraying the area being associated with the association, is uncalled for and such appoach has hurt the sentiments of the local people.
It was not expected from the teacher's body to threaten the Commanding Officer of BRO (98 RCC/15 BRTF) through constant phone calls that in the event of not stopping the work, the officer would face dire consequences.
MKS requested the Commander to maintain the progress of the ongoing work to end the hardships of the people during rainy days.
