Imphal, March 09 2022:
As part of the ongoing vaccination drive against Covid-19, Corbevax vaccine for children of 12 to 15 years have arrived in the state and the health department is all set to begin the vaccination process once the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issues relevant order, said health director Dr K Rajo.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle, Dr Rajo noted that Covid 19 situation has improved significantly.
A pandemic has five stages and the transmission rate in the first stage is fast while it is little slower in the second stage.
The third stage is containment stage and the fourth is elimination stage while the fifth is eradication stage.
The state is in the third stage of containment.
However, there is still uncertainty regarding the possibility of further mutation of the virus and the new variant fuelling another wave, he said.
The new vaccine for children is called Corbevax and vaccination process can begin as soon as the ministry gives the green signal.
Gap between first and second dose will be 28 days and children in the age group will be covered in the vaccination drive in phased manner, he said.
Dr Rajo further informed that vaccination drive is still continuing in the state and pandemic situation is improving gradually.
Mutation in virus makes it hard to contain and eliminate the pandemic.
Though the pandemic has almost been contained, it will emerge as endemic from time to time but will not be severe.
With the arrival of vaccine for children in the age group of 12 to 15 years, there will be no problem in reopening educational institutions.
However, following Covid appropriate behaviour and getting full dose of the vaccine is still mandatory as it is the key to containing the pandemic and protection from new variants of the virus.
Besides, full vaccination of all teaching and non-teaching staff is a must in order to reopen educational institutes.
