Imphal, September 23 2018:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is revealing its true colours and dictatorship nature while dealing with the issue of Manipur University, Veteran politician O Joy claimed during a media interaction at PRJA office yesterday.
Four years of BJP Government rule has reduced the freedom of press as well as the democratic values in the country while the vested needs and interest of few individuals are fulfilled at the expense of democratic principles, he added.
O Joy continued that the students and teachers of the university are treated as war captives inside the campus and the university hostels will soon be converted into quarters of paramilitary forces and Manipur police.
In Manipur 'Pandey ki baat' is accepted as the Prime Minister 'maan ki baat', affecting the career of many students and the ruling Government action of protecting Pandey is worth condemning, he claimed.
It is the time to save Manipur University rather than remaining as silent spectators and it is time to open our eyes and work together to save the university, Joy said.
He conveyed that if the present condition continues further, education as well as political and democratic system of the State will fall into chaos.
On the other hand, PRJA convener Erendro said that the military raid inside the university campus might be the first of its kind in the history of, not only the State, but for the country as well.
And this action of suppressing the voice of the people shows that the present Government is a dictatorial Government which does not respect democracy, he alleged.
Turning the university into a warzone is worth condemning in the strongest term possible and also brings into question the role of the State Government in supporting Pandey by breaking the university acts.
He also added that the reason why the State Government banned internet services is to hide the brutal act of the State police inside the university campus.
He further said that firing tear gas shells inside the campus and disturbing the peaceful atmosphere of the university is very unfortunate.
The Government should declare Geneva Convention in the university and provide food and medical supplies abundantly, he added.
The Government should release the students and teachers unconditionally.
If the Govt fails to do so, PRJA, in collaboration with various CSOs and political parties, will take up necessary steps to save the university and the State, Erendro said.
He also maintained that the recent action of the State Government is like a fake encounter case but it has completely failed in its attempts.
Suppressing the legitimate and democratic demand of the students has exposed that the N Biren Govt is a puppet Govt of the Centre, Erendro blasted.
