Canoeing and Kayaking athletes feted

Two Canoeing and Kayaking athletes under Moirang Municipal Council, who represented India in the 18th Asian Games were given a warm reception and feted by MLA Office Moirang at Modi Bhawan, Moirang Phairembam Leikai in the presence of P Sharatchandra, MLA Moirang AC; N Ibomcha, Councillor Ward No.4, Moirang Municipal Council; Md Abdul Hamid, president BJP Moirang Mandal and other sports enthusiasts of the region as presidium members.
Phairembam Sonia Singh who finished 8th in the Kayaking Kl 500 m final and 9th in the K4 500m event of the Asian Games and Konjengbam Sarju Devi who secured 7th place in the Dragon Board 500m and 4th in the 200 m event were encouraged with simple presents on the occasion.
Sonia Devi is the daughter of Phairembam Bijoy of Moirang Lai Thangjing Mamang Leikai while Sarju Devi was born to Konjengbam Kuber Singh of Moirang Konjengbam Leikai.
The players also shared happiness for being a part of the Indian Contingent though they feel sad about returning empty handed.
They also promised for better performances in the future and urged the Government to heed towards the needs of the athletes and other infrastructure development.
MLA P Sharatchandra also promised to help develop Takmu Water Sports complex to a world class facility as early as possible on the occasion.
